By Crosby Noricks

In a world where celebrities create trends, stylist Linda Medvene is at the forefront of Hollywood’s new green obsession, eco-fashion. Green no longer refers just to cool cash, but to an emerging lifestyle for stars who are increasing the demand for organic fabrics and eco-friendly clothing options.

We recently checked in with Linda to get the dirt on life as a celebrity stylist and her environmentally conscious clientele.

Q: How/When did you first become interested in eco-friendly fashion?

A: I have been interested in eco friendly fashion for some time now. I feel very strong about saving the planet and being aware of how we can help. I have been telling my clients and my child about eco clothing. It is becoming part of our healthy lives. All people that I talk to have become aware of eco friendly fashions or are becoming aware of it and the benefits it will have on us long term. The more aware we are of the good it will do, the better off we will all be.

Q: Who are some of your celebrity clients?

A: I have worked with so many different celebrity clients. Some of my clients are:

  • Felicity Huffman
  • The Duchess Of York
  • Amy Brennaman
  • Tea Leoni
  • Sally Field
  • Valarie Bertanelli
  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Victoria Principal
  • Shakira
  • Paulina Rubio
  • Brad Pitt

Q: What are celebrities looking for in terms of eco-friendly fabrics and designs?

A: I find that celeb clients are looking for not only comfort but also a great chic look in eco friendly clothing. It is very important that they look good as well as be comfy, as they often have photos taken of them.

Q: Who are 3 emerging designers to watch in the eco-fashion world?

A: I love finding new designers so I am always doing research. I love Zooey t-shirts. I also love Citizens for Humanity; they have a small green line. Linda Loudermilk has some beautiful pieces - Amy Brennaman is a fan of her line.

Q: How has the attitude toward eco-fashion changed in recent years?

A: Eco-fashions have changed quite a bit over the last several
years. I feel that all of a sudden in the last year or 2 people are really watching what they wear and are very aware of the make and fabric. People are really looking for eco-friendly items.

Q: What is the biggest challenge in trying to dress eco-friendly?

A: The biggest challenge is finding eco-friendly clothing. I know Stella McCartney is starting a line, which is fantastic, and hopefully all the wonderful designers will start an eco-friendly line. Once that happens I have no doubt that the world of fashion will turn eco-friendly. It is a challenge to find eco-friendly clothing in the bigger department stores.

Q: Are your celebrity clients asking for eco-friendly fashions by name, by label? Do you educate them about it?

A: My clients are asking me to keep an eye out for eco clothing. I am always looking for new resources.

Q: Are you concerned that eco-fashion is a passing trend?

A: Eco is the start of new way of living as far as I’m concerned. It is not a passing trend. Look at hybrid cars. I think Leonardo Decaprio was the first celeb to have one and it became the car to drive for so many reasons. Celebs gave up their fancy cars and all started driving hybrids. All my clients have hybrids cars and many of them, when going to an event, order either a hybrid or a vegi oil run car. Eco-fashion is just becoming known and with celebs wearing it people all over will get to see what a wonderful thing it is to wear eco-friendly clothing.
